Arranged in two groups: I. Vocal scores (1). II. Promptbooks (5 in 8 vols.). The promptbooks represent two distinct versions of the production. The first version is represented by 1) a manuscript copy bearing a copyright date of 1880 and the signature of Arthur Bell, and 2) two typed copies titled "The bachelors" (which attribute text to Deen Delmore and music to E.L. Darling, and identify F. Charles Payne as additional author and Edwin A. Price as orchestral arranger) which has different character names but dialogue and musical numbers similar to the first copy. The second version bears little resemblance to the first with regard to characters, text, and musical numbers. It is represented by a typed copy of the promptbook (2 vols), again titled "12 jolly bachelors," and a ledger-sized manuscript copy in 3 vols. for which the title page is lacking. The manuscript director's score corresponds to the first version. Several of the items are annotated, showing cuts and insertions.
